The Baltic Sea Contract® initiative is based on many years of work for the Baltic Sea!
For many years, work on the Baltic Sea environment has been carried out through, among others the Expedition Save the Baltic Sea in a large network with many collaborations. Such as Stockholm University – Baltic Sea Centre, Government Offices, Royal Court, Rotary and several other organizations and companies.

The Baltic Sea Contract® Foundation

The Baltic Sea Contract® Foundation is a fundraising foundation that runs its own projects as well as supports the projects of others, helping to engage the public, businesses and policy makers in surrounding countries for a healthier Baltic Sea. The Foundation is independent, non-partisan and non-religious, dedicated to ensuring a long-term sustainable and healthy Baltic Sea for future generations.

Vision

The environment of the Baltic Sea is showing tangible improvements and that a negative trend has been reversed. The Baltic Sea Contract® Foundation is seen as a major contributor and pioneer in the work towards saving the Baltic Sea. The work of the Baltic Sea Contract® is seen as an innovative way of doing environmental work.

Objectives

With 90 million people in the Baltic Sea catchment area, there is potetial to rapidly achieve a large number of Baltic Sea contracts, aiming for 1 million as a first major step.

Sustainability

Since what we do is aimed at sustainability, it is important that we also work sustainably. This means that we consider the carbon footprint and other environmental aspects when designing and operating our business. In our work to promote and better the marine environment, we are also open to opportunities to create other kind of meaningful activities. For example by involving youths in projects or in other ways strengthening the community.

  • We take into account our own and others’ working environment when conducting our activities.
  • We work with a focus on UN Global Goals according to the 2030 Agenda UN Global Goals
  • The business focuses on no 14 but also has an impact on 13 and 15. oceans and marine resources objective 14 combat climate change goal 13 ecosystems and biodiversity target 15
  • We work in a way that supports goals 8 and 11. Decent working conditions and economic growth 8 Sustainable cities and communities 11
